Hannah Vermeersch (born 10 September 1992) is an Australian Olympic rower. She represented for Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics and at World Championships in 2013.
Personal
Vermeersch was born in Esperance, Western Australia[1][2][3] and attended Scaddan Primary School and Presbyterian Ladies' College, Perth. She started a Bachelor of Sports Science at Murdoch University in 2010.[1][2] As of 2012, she lives in Perth, Western Australia.[1][4]
Vermeersch is 178 centimetres (70 in) tall and weighs 68 kilograms (150 lb).[1][2]
Rowing
Vermeersch competes in Coxless fours and eights.[1][2] She is coached by Bec Sattin and has a rowing scholarship from the Western Australian Institute of Sport.[2]
At the Junior World Championships in 2009, Vermeersch earned a gold medal in the women's coxless four.[2][3] At the Junior World Championships in 2010, she earned a bronze medal in the women's coxless four.[2][3]
Vermeersch made her senior Australian national team debut in 2012.[2] She finished 5th in the eight event at the 2012 World Cup 3 in Munich, Germany and placed 4th in the same event at the 2012 World Cup 2 in Lucerne, Switzerland.[1][5] As a member of the eights crew in over a 2000 metres course, she helped set a time of 6 minutes 12.36 seconds, which qualified her and the rest of the team for the Olympics.[5] She finished 2nd in the pair event at the 2012 Australian Rowing Championships in West Lakes, Australia.[1]
Vermeersch was selected to represent Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in rowing in the eights.[4][6][7][8] The crew nicknamed themselves the "Motley Crew".[7] She earned selection on the boat after a battle between ten women for eight spots.[9] With an Australian rowing team of forty-six rowers, she was one of the youngest members of the team.[10][11] Prior to going to London, she participated in a training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport European Training Centre in Varese, Italy.[11]
At the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju Vermeersch, won bronze in the coxless four with Alexandra Hagan, Charlotte Sutherland and Lucy Stephan.
