Harvinder "Harry" Anand is the former Mayor of Laurel Hollow, New York; he was elected on June 19, 2007. He is the first elected Indian-American Sikh mayor in the state of New York.[1] He was sworn into office on July 2, 2007. In June 2011, he was reelected to his third term as mayor. He did not run for reelection in 2013.[2]

His inauguration ceremony was covered by major Indian and American media including CNN-IBN.[3]

Laurel Hollow[4] is a village located on the North Shore of Long Island. Laurel Hollow is predominantly a residential community with home values ranging from $2 million to $35 million. The Village has its own private beach with mooring rights for its residents. Laurel Hollow is the home to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory,[5] a cancer, neuroscience, and genetics research institute.

Anand also serves as the Commissioner of Police for Laurel Hollow. He attended the Civilian Police Academy in Nassau County, New York. He also serves as the Director of the Nassau County Law Enforcement Exploring Advisory Board. He is an active member of the Nassau County Police Reserves.

Anand is a Chemical Engineer from Punjab University, Chandigarh, India who immigrated to the United States in 1982. He is the President of Royce International,[6] a multinational company involved in the manufacture of industrial chemicals.

After his election, many articles have been written about him in Indian and American media including The New York Times.[1] He was also interviewed on the Meet the Leaders program on Cablevision.[7]
