Hayashi Catsle

Hayashi castle was a 15th-century castle, (alternatvley known as Hayashi-jo, Fukuyama-jo) in Satoyamabe Matsumoto city, Nagano, Japan. A mountain-type castle, it is now largely ruins. The site is sometimes regarded as one castle, or two castles, Hayashikojo (the small castle) and Hayashiohjo (the larger castle). It is located in the southeastern par tof Matsumoto city.^{[1] [2] [3]}

History

The castle was built in the 15th century, and then enlarged in the 16th. It is in fact two castles, a larger castle located on the north ridge of a valley, and a smaller castle on the south ridge. The two castles operated together, rather than as separate castles. In its heyday, the castle was the main base for the Ogasuwara clan. It was one of many castles built by the clan to protect their territory.^[4] The clan lost the castle to Shingen Takeda at the battle of Shiojiritoge path in 1548. However, the clan later regained it in the late 16th century. The castle was decommissioned around 1590^[5][6][7]

Current site

There are little remains of the castle on the present day site, just some stairs, a well, and some low stone walls.^[8][9][10]
