Higher Ground for Humanity is a non-profit organization located in Carlsbad, California. It is a humanitarian foundation which works in education, research, program development, and innovative partnering with other charities.

History

HGH was founded by Lenedra J. Carroll and Jewel Kilcher in 1998. Their goal was to build a large humanitarian platform for the world. The organization is committed to being self-sustaining and to actions that serve humanist goals.

The ClearWater Project

The organisation's most visible and successful effort has been The ClearWater Project led by Shane Kilcher. The project was launched by HGH in 1999. It is focused on access to clean water in developing countries through education which facilitates community involvement and empowering individuals.

The Clearwater Project has taken on projects in South America, Central America, India, and Africa, building wells and water filtration systems. One such project was the reactivation of construction of a well through the use of a solar powered pump for on the Maasai people in the Sukenia region of Tanzania, Africa. Before Clearwater's involvement villagers were walking as much as 10 hours a day to fetch clean water. Other projects have taken place in Malakkara, India; Gualcea, Honduras; Sisoguichi, Mexico; and Bangladesh.
