Hochschule für Gestaltung
Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG, lit. "college for design") denotes certain design or art schools in Germany.
History
The Bauhaus called its first institution "Bauhaus-Hochschule für Gestaltung." After its closure by the Nazis, the Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm (Ulm School of Design) took over this name, thereby promising to be the democratic vanguard of modernity in Germany in the 1950s.
After its closure in 1968, Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach am Main took over both the name and a large part of the teaching concept of the predecessor institution. Part of today's Hochschule für Künste Bremen had the term "Hochschule für Gestaltung" from 1970 to 1988.
Since the 1990s, there are more art schools called HfG:
- Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee
- Hochschule für Gestaltung Offenbach am Main (since 1970)
- Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Gmünd (since 1971)
- Hochschule für Gestaltung Schwäbisch Hall (2000–2013)
- Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Basel
- Hochschule für Gestaltung und Kunst Zürich
- Staatliche Hochschule für Gestaltung Karlsruhe (Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design)
