Hyperolius castaneus is a species of frog in the Hyperoliidae family. It is found in Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical moist montane forests, subtropical or tropical high-altitude grassland, and swamps. It is threatened by habitat loss, agriculture (crops and livestock) and human settlements.

This species is listed as Least Concern due to the discovery that it occurs more widely than previously thought (now an 73,498 kmĀ² estimated extent of occurrence) and because, despite ongoing habitat loss, there is currently an abundance of suitable habitats within its range. It is considered to be an abundant species.
