Iconic Tower is a proposed 142-story mega-tall skyscraper planned in Purbachal New Town, Bangladesh, at a preliminary cost of US$3 billion.[1] The project is intended to be the centerpiece of a new business district which would also include several high-rise commercial towers surrounding the tower.[2] An international tender is planned in 2016 for the construction.[3]

Overview

The building was first proposed by United States-based real-estate company KPC Group, founded by Kali P. Chaudhuri.[4][5] A plot of about 100 acres was proposed by the company, which was later scaled down to 60 acres.[2] An auction for leasing the land for construction was scheduled for May 2016, but no companies bid.[6] In September 2016, Housing and Public Works Minister Mosharraf Hossain said a tender for construction would be floated within the next two months.[3]

The project is divided into three phases, First phase includes the construction of the Iconic Tower. During second phase, several high-rise commercial towers will be built surrounding Iconic Tower. Third Phase will include the construction of artificial lake, mega-shopping mall, 5-star international hotel chain, and a state-of-art sports facility 70,000 seat capacity Purbachal International Cricket Arena. The development will become a new district of Dhaka, and the largest business district of South Asia. Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology Bureau of Research, Testing, and Consultation Division alongside RAJUK will be the main consultant of the project.
