Indira Gandhi University, Meerpur, Rewari (इंदिरा गांधी विश्वविद्यालय मीरपुर, रेवाड़ी) is a state university in located in Village Meerpur, District - Rewari, Haryana (India). It is a newly established state run University under Indira Gandhi University Meerpur act no. XXIX of 2013. Earlier, it was a regional center of M.D. University Rohtak since 1989. The university is situated in a 110 Acres of lush green area with pollution free environment in Meerpur village on Rewari-Lokri road. The main entrance in university is through the Rao Tula Ram Gate. University starts functioning w.e.f. 13 Sept. 2013 the day Sh. Mohinder Kumar, IAS (Retd) resume office as founder Vice Chancellor of the University who served the University since 13 Sept 2013 to 21 July 2015. At present, Prof.(Dr.) SP Bansal, is the Vice Chancellor of University and Dr. Madan Lal Goel is Registrar of University. Prof. R S Pandey is the Dean of academic affairs and student welfare. Prof. R S Sangwan is designated as Controller of Examination and Sh. Abhey Singh Dhaniwal is looking after the Finances. The university has implemented the Choice Based Credit System from 2016-2017 session. It is under the Govt. of Haryana's proposed plan to affiliate colleges in Mahendragarh, Narnaul, Gurgram and Rewari from the academic session starting in 2017. Teaching in the university is of top notch, which is reflected in100% student success rate in completing their courses within prescribed minimum duration. There is Maharana Pratap Boys Hostel and Rani Laxmi Bai Girls Hostel with all modern facilities and security for comfortable stay of students during the academic sessions. There are separate Gym for girls and boys.There is a ground with 400m running track for fitness and sports. For medical lookout First Aid kit is present in both the hostels and a Nurse is available on campus 24*7*365. In case of medical emergency, Haryana Govt. HealthCare Centre and Meerpur Institute of Medical Sciences(MIMS)- a cancer speciality hospital is situated near the Gate no. 2 in the Meerpur village. Oriental Bank of Commerce is situated in the campus and there is a PNB branch in MIMS. University Food Court available in the University Campus which remains open till the evening. A common central library with 25000 books's construction work is near completion. The university is very well connected to nearby city Rewari. Rewari bus stand is 14 km and Railway junction is 17 km in distance. The first bus from Rewari bus stand to university is at 7:45am and the last is at 6:00pm. After every hour there is a bus to university. In own transportation, university is 7 km from NH71, 7 km from Rewari-Sohna Road, 6 km from Rewari-Patodi road. There is a seminar hall on all floors and each teaching building, shared by 2 departments. Basic facilities like toilet and water coolers are on each floor of buildings. Water purifier systems are placed on roof of each building including hostel. To avoid inconvenience due to electricity power cut, every building including hostels has its own generator with almost no noise. For uninterrupted movement in the campus, adequate parking space is provided near buildings and offices. Special attention is given to greenery in the campus for a pleasant fresh breath. No compromise with the security is done, the campus is under surveillance by CCTV cameras with recording and also secured by trained men private security.

The first LL.B.(professional) 3 years batch with 60 students in morning and 120 in evening was started in year 2014-15 academic session. In 2015-16 session, it was changed to 120 students in morning batch and 60 in evening batch. Also with a batch of 30 students, LL.M. was introduced in the 2015-16. In 2016-17 the 'evening' batch has been renamed as 'afternoon'. The present Chairperson& Dean of faculty is Dr. A S Chahal (Associate professor) who is on deputation from Kurukshetra University. He is also the legal advisor and a member of academic council in university. He is also the Public Information Officer regarding RTI applications.The department has 18 sanctioned teaching posts. The classes are conducted on the 2nd floor in Vice Chancellor building which constitute of 4 classrooms, Hod office, clerk office, staff room, seminar hall with moot court settings. Morning batch timing: 9:00am – 2:00pm ; afternoon batch timing: 2:00pm– 7:00pm. The admissions are done by counselling on entrance test's merit list, for who had applied online through www.igu.ac.in. The curriculum is divided into even and odd semesters. To be promoted to next year, minimum 50% of subject exams is to be passed in that year. The passing marks in each individual subject is 40/100, taking the total from internal assessment[20(5-attendance+8-assignment file+7-presentation)]+ theory final(80) whereas yearly total should be 45% aggregate of all the subjects. The Dept. of Law also conducts legal aid campaigns in rural areas. It has a half Yearly Journal name IGU Journal of Law.[1][2]
