Jean-Benjamin François de la Borde

Jean-Benjamin François de Laborde (or de La Borde) (1734 - 1794) was a French librettist, composer and historian. He was born in Paris on 5 September 1734 and guillotined in Paris on 22 July 1794.

Jean-Philippe Rameau taught him composition, and Antoine Dauvergne taught him the violin. He was a prolific composer of opéras-comiques and songs.

He is now remembered for his four-volume Essai sur la musique ancienne and modern (1780)
