Mixed martial arts record from Sherdog

Joel Malcolm Davis is an African American mixed martial artist and former amateur wrestler. His dad named him after slain civil rights leader Malcolm X because he felt he would become a born leader like Malcolm X was. Davis is from Compton, California.

Wrestling career

High school career

At Santa Fe High School Davis was a all conference running back/receiver, first team CIF stand out football player as well as a two-time California State champion wrestler, three-time State finalist and two-time national champion.[1]

College career

In college, Davis competed in wrestling for Notre Dame College of Ohio.[2] He was the third undefeated NCAA wrestler over a four-year career ever and the first wrestler in the history of the NCAA Division II to end his entire career undefeated. He finished his career with a 133-0 Division II record.[3][4]

Exhibition career

In May 2016, Davis competed in a rare exhibition match along side the USA Olympic team versus Cuba in the Beat the Streets (BTS) "Salsa in the Square" wrestling event in New York City. He faced three-time NCAA champion Alex Dieringer of Oklahoma State who was nominated for an ESPY and won the Dan Hodge Trophy. He lost that freestyle exhibition match 9-0.[5]

Mixed martial arts career

As an amateur he had a record of 5-0.[6]

Bellator MMA

Davis is currently signed to Bellator MMA.[7] He competes as a welterweight and made his promotional debut against Keith Cutrone on August 26, 2016 at Bellator 160.[8] Davis won the fight by unanimous decision.
