Johann Friedrich Penther (May 17, 1693 – September 17, 1749) was a German mathematician and architect.
Biography
He was born on May 17, 1693, in Fürstenwalde. He attended an academy for Silesian nobility in Legnica. In 1717, he was appointed as the court controller for the sons of the Duke of Haugwitz. He died on September 17, 1749, in Göttingen.[1]

- "Praxis geometriae : worinnen ... alle bey dem Feld-Messen vorkommende Fälle, mit Stäben, dem Astrolabio, der Boussole und der Mensul", (62 editions published from 1732 to 2005 in 3 languages).
- "Gnomonica fundamentalis et mechanica worinnen gewiesen wird, wie man so wol gründlich als auf mechanischer Art allerhand Sonnen-Uhren", (12 editions published from 1733 to 1768).[2]
