John A. Carter (born May 3, 1963 in Winchester, Massachusetts and raised in Woburn, Massachusetts) is an American retired professional ice hockey player who played for the Boston Bruins and San Jose Sharks of the NHL.

Carter also represent United States at the 1986 World Ice Hockey Championships.
