John Cullen Nugent

John Cullen Nugent, (January 5, 1921- March 12, 2014)^[1] was a Canadian sculptor and educator originally from Montreal. He studied at St John's University (Collegeville, Minnesota) where he formed many of his opinions that shaped his art. His early works reflected a liberal Catholic flavor. He moved to Saskatchewan where he produced religious works in silver and bronze. He later turned to welded steel abstracts. John Cullen taught for many years at the University of Regina. He was made a member of the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.^[2] Most of his well-known works are in the three prairie provinces of Canada, including commissions for places such as the Banff Centre and the Canadian Grain Commission building in Winnipeg.
