John Edward McInerney (born 7 September 1957 in Liverpool, United Kingdom)[1] is a British-German singer, songwriter, and the front person of the band Bad Boys Blue. He is the only still-performing band member from the original line-up of the group.

Early years

John McInerney was born in Liverpool, UK in 1957. He was interested in music since his childhood and once even appeared on the British television performing "She Loves You" by The Beatles.[2] John's mother Agnes died early—when John was four and a half years. John has a younger brother. He and his brother were brought up by their grandmother. When he was 15 years old, John played in the junior team of a local football club. Having graduated from his school, John worked as a stockbroker, and in 1979 he decided to moved to Germany. There he had to change his profession.

He married in 1985 and has two sons Ryan Nathan (born in 1989) and Wayne (born in 1992), and one daughter.[2] He owns several pubs in Cologne.[3]

Bad Boys Blue

Bad Boys Blue was formed in the summer of 1984 by German producer Tony Hendrik and his lyricist wife Karin van Haaren.[4][5] The original trio was composed of John McInerney, Jamaican Trevor "Supa T" Taylor (the original lead vocalist), and American Andrew Thomas.[4]

The producers looked for bandmembers in London, but someone referred them Andrew Thomas who lived in Cologne. Andrew referred Trevor, and he invited John.[6]

After joining the group, McInerney initially sang mostly in the chorus—being in the shadow of the first lead singer at that time, Trevor Taylor. In 1987, the situation changed when John sang "Come Back And Stay", which became a big hit. From that moment, John gradually became a leader, and Trevor's voice was less present. Since 1989, after the departure of Taylor, McInerney has sung almost all the songs the band. In January 2005, he ended long-time collaboration with Andrew Thomas. Over the last few years, he has lived in Poland.
