John Reynald Tiangco (born November 21, 1972) popularly known as John Rey Tiangco is a Filipino politician, Tiangco is the incumbent mayor of the City of Navotas.

Tiangco is a member of the United Nationalist Alliance, and the Partido Navoteño, a local party of UNA.[2]

His career as the mayor of the City of Navotas was praised as a 'fresh brand of public service', Tiangco is known for his excellent service as the mayor, giving all his commitment to the residents of the city, Tiangco drawn comparisons with his brother and his partner for public serving, Toby Tiangco, who also served as the mayor of the city, His administration was praised and many were satisfied by his performance as the mayor of the City of Navotas.[3]

Mayor of Navotas (2010-present)

Tiangco ran as the mayor of the City of Navotas on Navotas local elections, 2010, Tiangco and his brother, Toby Tiangco are running for the local party, Partido Navoteño, They are unopposed and no other candidates even tried to fight them for the position, Tiangco first seated as the Mayor of Navotas on June 30, 2010, he replaced his brother, Tobias B. Tiangco as the mayor of the City of Navotas, who finished serving for three terms as the mayor of the City of Navotas, Tiangco grabbed and got all of the accepted votes and won the 2010 Navotas local elections, Tiangco was the only candidate.[4][5]

His partnership and cooperation with his brother to help the residents were considered as a great advantage for the residents of the city of Navotas.[3]

With the help and assistance of his brother, they revealed that they will build the first public hospital in the city, the construction is ongoing and the residents are excited for the hospital to be in business, Tiangco made several housing projects for the residents and others were high buildings, dedicated to the homeless residents who is affected by natural occurrences., he also established more pumping stations, which is an answer to the flooding and calamity problems of the city of Navotas and to help residents in the city, The pumping stations are intended to supply and address the problem in the city, mostly of the stations were effective and helpful to the residents of the city of Navotas.[3]

He ran for re-election on the 2013 Navotas local elections running under the local party of Partido Navoteño that is supported by the United Nationalist Alliance, his brother also ran for re-election as the congressman of the city of Navotas, he won the race against the incumbent vice mayor at that time, Patrick Joseph Javier. Tiangco won the race with the margin of 31,000 votes, he got 60,300 votes and his opponent got 29,000 votes, his brother also won the election and his other partymates including the councilors, they all swept the election and grabbed all the seats in the Navotas City Council.[2][6]

Tiangco said that he will continue his advocacy to provide basic services within the residents of the city, by giving attention in giving appropriate jobs, modern houses, providing a neat environment, and public health systems on his second term, he was very thankful to this residents for they support for his candidacy as the mayor of the city of Navotas, he also plead to the residents of the city of Navotas to help him for his projects, ideas, advocacies and for giving the best for them to achieve their collective goal.[2]

Controversies

Tiangco, together with the incumbent vice mayor at that time, PJ Javier, his brother, Toby Tiangco, and the whole city council became controversial when a private organization filed a case against them at the ombudsman of the Philippines, for violating Republic Act 3019 or the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Law because of allegedly approving a city resolution prior to the law, the complainants said that the 'automatic withdrawal of the recognition and acknowledgement' is really wrong and the officials should be suspended prior to the law because they caused destructive unrepairable damage to the company.[7]

Tiangco was also criticized by the residents of Tangos, Navotas, a barangay in the city of Navotas, the residents said that the mayor of the city of Navotas do not take any action about the large amount of mud in the roads around the barangay and has no care about what is happening in the barangay, The residents said that they already complained many times ago about the issue, but the Mayor don't resolved it, and they said 'even sometimes there are no floods around our barangay, it is replaced by another problem, the large amount of mud on roads around the barangay', the residents said that the cause of the problem is the Road Digging projects for drainage in their barangay, that is a project of the local city government, the residents complained that the mayor of the city of Navotas has no interest in resolving this issue, and they are seriously affected because their children who are studying at Tangos Elementary School and Navotas High School can't refuse to walk in the dirty and muddy road, the small road also became smaller that even a car or a bicycle sidecar can't drive or enter at the road, The residents wondered why the reblocking project in Epifanio Delos Santos Avenue are finished within one week but their problem has not yet addressed for months.[8]
