Joking Hazard

Planned box art as displayed in the Kickstarter project

Joking Hazard is a party game from the creators of Cyanide & Happiness. The aim of the game is to create a comic strip based on a randomly dealt hand of cards containing several panels taken from the Random Comic Generator. The game is similar in nature to Cards Against Humanity in that the aim is to create a humorous scenario using a selection of seemingly unrelated entities.

The project launched on the crowdsourcing site Kickstarter on February 9, 2016,[1] and was fully funded within half an hour.[2]

History

Following the success of the Cyanide & Happiness web-comic and web-series, Explosm, the creators of Cyanide & Happiness, produced the Random Comic Generator.

After some weeks spent using the Random Comic Generator, the members of Explosm printed a number of the panels with the intention of playing a Cards against Humanity-style game with them.[3] According to Explosm, "it worked really, really well."[4]

Kickstarter Campaign

The Kickstarter campaign for Joking Hazard began on February 9, 2016 and reached its goal within approximately 27 minutes of the campaign's launch.[2]

Within an hour of its release, 'Level 1 Stretch Goals' were added to the campaign. These consisted of 10 'achievements,' of which 7 must be completed to reward backers of $25 or more. The 'Level 1' reward was an exclusive 10 card booster pack bundled with each copy of the game.[5] Within 5 hours, the campaign had "raised more than $134,000."[6] Backers continued to support the project, and funding surpassed $300,000 by the next day.[7] The campaign ended on March 11, 2016, raising a grand total of $3,246,589 USD.[8]
