Joseph M. Souki is a Democratic politician and current Speaker of the Hawaii House of Representatives.^[1] He replaced former Speaker Calvin Say in 2013, after organizing a coalition with both Democrats and Republicans.^[2]^[3]^[4] This is his second time as Speaker, having served previously from 1993 to 1999.^[5] He has represented Hawaii's 8th District since 1982, and has served as Chair of the Finance Committee and the Transportation Committee. He has been the primary sponsor of 825 bills.^[6] Before becoming a politician, Souki was a real estate broker and Executive Director of the Maui Economic Opportunity.^[7] He also served as a Private First Class in the United States Army from 1954-1956.^[8]
