Julio Perillán Gandarias[1] (born September 8, 1973) is an American actor of Spanish descent.

Biography

Born and raised in Bethesda, Maryland, on the outskirts of Washington DC. With dual citizenship, he is known for his discrete, reserved nature and his tenaciousness. The son of two immigrants from Spain, he is the third in a line of four brothers and sisters, and the only sibling to have entered the entertainment industry. Before he was an actor he graduated with a degree in Physics from the University of Maryland, College Park, College Park.

After the death of his father in 1996 he left for Los Ángeles, California to study film and acting. In 1998 he formally started his career as an actor appearing in theatre shows such as Fool for Love (Madrid Theatre), The Masque of Poe (Sacred Fools Theater Company), and Walk of Fame Café (Danville, Virginia).

His first cinematic endeavour (Eden's Curve, Virginia 2003), was as a producer and actor on an independent film based on real life events, directed by Anne Misawa and produced by Jerry Meadors.

After this project, Julio made the decision to take a trip to Spain to care for his paternal grandparents and search for work in the Spanish film industry.

His first job in Spain was a lead role in Frágil (2004) under the direction of well known Basque filmmaker Juanma Bajo Ulloa.[2] From here he went on to work with other directors such as Manuel Martín Cuenca (Malas temporadas), Elio Quiroga (The Dark Hour and NO-DO), Samuel P. Abrahams (Chico meets Chica), Martin Donovan (Kappa il Bandito) y Woody Allen (Vicky Cristina Barcelona), playing roles in national and international film productions that have allowed him to showcase his bi-cultural talents and great screen presence.

He has also been in and out of Spanish television Los Ochenta and El comisario Telecinco, Hospital Central Antena3 and Cuéntame cómo pasó, TVE and thanks to his fluent English and Spanish has been a part of some TV films and other national productions shot in English.

He lives between Madrid, New York City and Los Angeles.

A classic and attractive look and his capacity for great expression in Spanish as well as English make him a unique and versatile actor within the international film community.
