Kanagal is a village in Mysore district, Karnataka. It is in periyapatna taluk 30 km from Taluk place. It is very close to Coorg and Hassan district. It is located on the bank of the Cauvery River. It is also birthplace of legendary Kannada film director Puttanna Kanagal, and his brother, lyricist Kanagal Prabhakara Shasthry. Villagers are mainly farmers though many of the younger generation are working in other fields such as medical, engineering, teaching, police, army, and industries.

Kanagal village has grama panchayath and it has good track record of administration.. This village has a government primary and secondary school , govt PU college. One private school DVSK. It has a govt hospital and a veterinary hospital.

This village is also famous for tobacco plantation and paddy fields.
