Kilkenny Music

Kilkenny Music (KilkennyMusic.com, 2005 - To Date) is a non-profit music-based group in Kilkenny, Ireland working with a vast array of bands and acts within Kilkenny and the South East of Ireland.

About KilkennyMusic.com

Founded in 2005 by Ken McGuire, the group hold regular music events to raise awareness of music at a grass-roots level, working with bands and acts starting out in their musical careers, all the way up to seasoned performers and recording artists.

In 2006, the group launched the Sound System Podcast , showcasing material from Kilkenny and other Irish bands, and the One Take Sessions , a platform for local and visiting acts to work in a live music setup and have their performances professionally recorded and mixed with an appreciative audience.

The group now holds 4 active hosts in Ken McGuire, Alan Dawson, Ross Costigan and Michael Keogh.

The group's primary activities are split between working with bands in a live environment and working with bands in an online capacity, boasting an online community in the region of 1,00 members (KilkennyMusic.com, December 4, 2008), a sign of the times for music in Kilkenny, a city home to the likes of Kerbdog, My Little Funhouse, Kaydee, Engine Alley, Wilt and more.

The group also provide one of the largest local photo archives of live music events that have taken place in Kilkenny since 2005.

Sound System Podcast

The Sound System Podcast was launched in October 2006 as a free podcast show concentrating on events related to KilkennyMusic.com. Since the spring of 2007 the show has become a popular weekly transmission, each episode varying in length from 30 minutes to 45 minutes, with four tracks from acts based in Kilkenny or coming through Kilkenny in the near future. The show is hosted by the four staff of KilkennyMusic.com

One Take Sessions

The One Take Sessions is a free music night hosted in Kilkenny by KilkennyMusic.com and running every third Thursday throughout the year. Launched on November 2, 2006, each show is free to the public and features 3–4 acts each night from both Kilkenny and all around Ireland. The shows are pre-booked several weeks in advance due to their popularity. See the One Take Sessions website for details.

The One Take Sessions is currently the only music night of its kind that runs in Kilkenny, Ireland and to date has hosted in the region of 100 different musical acts.

The 2009 series commenced on March 12, 2009 and conclude in December of this year.

Funding

Kilkenny Music was funded in part in both 2006, 2007 and 2008 respectively by that Art Acts Grant through the Kilkenny Arts Office and Kilkenny County Council

Awards

KilkennyMusic.com was nominated as Best Music Blog at the 2007 and 2008 Irish Blog Awards and as Best Music Site at the 2008 Irish Web Awards ,[1] State (magazine) winning the category in the awards inaugural year[2]
