Konnakkad

Konnakkad is a hilly region in Maloth village of Kasaragod District in Kerala, India.

Location

Konnakkad which is located just 3km away from Malom town on the Kerala-Karnataka border. It is a touristy place and a forest area as well. Konnakkad is known as the base station of Kottanchery hills. One can get buses and other public vehicles from nearby towns up to Konnakkad.

Tourism

The Talakaveri peak (origin of the River Kaveri) located in the Brahmagiri hills of Coorg is just 14km from Konnakkad and can be reached by walking through dense forests. The local people have demanded a new Malom-Konnakkad-Talakavery-Coorg road which would connect Malom town to Coorg in Karnataka. Many trucking camps are held here. It is best to visit here during rainy season for viewing the cloud-covered hills, thick forests, and high current streams. People living here go to Malom which is the nearest town for their needs. Other larger nearby towns to Konnakadu are Nileshwar and Kanghangad to which it is connected by frequent bus service.

Transportation

This village is connected to Karnataka state through Panathur. There is a 20 km road from Panathur to Sullia in Karnataka from where Bangalore and Mysore can be easily accessed. Locations in Kerala can be accessed by driving towards the western side. The nearest railway station is Kanhangad railway station on Mangalore-Palakkad line. There are airports at Mangalore and Calicut.
