Laïka Fatien
Laïka Fatien is a French singer.
Personal life
Fatien was born in Paris in 1968. Her mother is a Moroccan-Spanish, and her father is from the Ivory Coast.
She studied at ARIAL Île-de-France, CIM and IACP (jazz music schools).
Music career
Her 2008 CD Misery, A Tribute to Billie Holiday (in memory of Thomas Shipp & Abraham Smith) is on the Blujazz label and features Robert Glasper on piano, David EL-Malek on tenor sax, Daryl Hall on bass, and Gregory Hutchinson on drums. It received ****stars on Allmusic.com, ****1/2 stars from Downbeat magazine and ***** stars on iTunes and Amazon.com.
She signed with Universal Music Group in 2009 and recorded Nebula, produced by Meshell Ndegeocello in 2010.
Her 2012 album produced by Jean-Philippe Allard and arranged by Gil Goldstein was recorded in New York in 2011(featuring Roy Hargrove, Graham Haynes and Ambrose Akinmusire).
Acting
Also an actress, she had a major role in A Drum Is A Woman directed by Jérôme Savary and performed at Chaillot, and has taken part in numerous festivals.
She also took part in "Hasards ou Coincidences", directed by Claude Lelouch, played the Maori princess in "Los Sobrinos del Capitan Grant" directed by Paco Mir (Trycicle)
