La Gesta del Marrano

La Gesta del Marrano (Against the Inquisition) is an Argentine novel, written by Marcos Aguinis. It was first published in 1991.

This novel is developed about Francisco Maldonado da Silva, a physician born in San Miguel de Tucumán, Argentina, that rediscovering his Jewish origin decided to assume fully his Jewishness and stop hiding as a Christian (marrano). Maldonado was imprisoned by the Holy Inquisition, trialed and condemned for heresy and eventually burned at the stake with eleven other Jews in Lima.
