La Gloria (shoe retailer)

La Gloria is a Puerto Rican shoe store chain, which has stores across the tiny Caribbean nation, including one in Plaza Carolina, near Luis Munoz Marin International Airport in Carolina.[1]

Brief history

The first La Gloria store opened in 1940.[2]

During much of its existence, La Gloria faced stiff opposition from Almacenes Gonzalez, another nationwide Puerto Rican shoe retailer store chain, and, for children shoes, with Chiquitin, a store chain which catered to children and teenager's shoe needs.

Its main competitor, as of 2016, is Humberto Vidal.[3] La Gloria and Humberto Vidal were in fact, owned by the same family, the Vidal family, forming a duopoly.[4]
