Laura Wasser

Laura Allison Wasser (born May 23, 1968, Los Angeles)[1][2] is an American attorney specializing in divorce.[3] Her clients have included Ryan Reynolds,[4] Heidi Klum,[5] Ashton Kutcher,[6] Christina Aguilera,[4] Marta Kauffman,[7] and Johnny Depp,[8] as well as pro bono clients from the Harriet Buhai Center for Family Law.[9] Celebrity gossip website TMZ calls her the "disso queen" ("disso" for marriage dissolution).[10][11][12][13][14]

Early life and education

She was born in Los Angeles. She graduated from Beverly Hills High School in 1986 and spent one year abroad in high school attending The American School in Switzerland.[15] She has a B.A. in Rhetoric from University of California, Berkeley,[15] and she earned a law degree from Loyola Law School in 1994.[16][17][2] She has been a member of the California Bar since December 1994.[18]

Wasser is a divorce attorney in Los Angeles.[19][20][21][22][23][24][25] Wasser has handled a number of high-profile, high-net-worth dissolutions, including those for Angelina Jolie,[26] Heidi Klum,[5] Kim Kardashian,[27] Ryan Reynolds,[4] Christina Aguilera,[28] Hilary Duff,[4] Stevie Wonder,[4] Kelis,[29] Britney Spears, Patricia Arquette,[13] Kate Walsh,[30] Johnny Knoxville,[14] Jimmy Iovine[31] Maria Shriver,[32] and Olivier Martinez in his 2015 divorce from Halle Berry.[33][34][35]

On December 16, 2011, TMZ indicated that Wasser filed divorce paperwork for Vanessa Bryant, wife of NBA superstar Kobe Bryant.[36]

In August 2015, actress Megan Fox hired celebrity lawyer Laura Wasser to represent her in her divorce from Brian Austin Green.[37]

With her father, lawyer Dennis Wasser, she served as an on-set legal consultant for the movie, Liar Liar.[4] Her book It Doesn't Have to Be That Way: How to Divorce Without Destroying Your Family or Bankrupting Yourself was published in 2013 and was reprinted one year later.[38]

Honors and awards

Laura Wasser has been named one of The Hollywood Reporter's 100 Power Lawyers three times.[39][40] She has also been named one of the California Daily Journal's Top 100 Lawyers[41] and Southern California’s Top 50 Women Attorneys every year from 2012 to 2016.[42][43] In June 2008, Wasser received the Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law Zephyr M. Ramsey Award. In 2011, she was the recipient of the Century City Chamber of Commerce Women of Achievement.[15] She was listed as one of the Top 50 Women Lawyers in 2012 and 2013 by the Los Angeles Magazine Super Lawyers. Wasser received the Brady Center Advocate Award.[44]

Personal life

Wasser has two sons, Luke and Jack,[45] with two former boyfriends that she did not marry.[46][47][19][48][49] In 1993, she divorced a man she was briefly married to (not the fathers of her children).[20][47] She is not married.[46][47][19][48][49] She resides in Los Angeles.[50]
