The Lawrence Public Library is a public library located in Lawrence, Kansas. It serves the City of Lawrence, and, through its membership in the Northeast Kansas Library System (NEKLS), all of the citizens of the NEKLS multi-county regional library system. It is governed by a board of trustees consisting of seven members. The current members of the Board of Trustees are: Christopher Burger, Fran Devlin (Secretary-Treasurer), Joan Golden (Vice Chair), Terry Leibold, Ursula Minor, David Vance, and Deborah Thompson (Chair).[1] The library's current director is Topeka native and University of Kansas graduate Brad Allen.[2]

Renovation and expansion

On November 2, 2010 Lawrence voters approved a project to expand and renovate the existing library at 707 Vermont Street.[3] The $19M plan encourages portions of the library to be seen from Vermont Street in addition to a 250-space parking garage. It was completed in July 2014.[4] During construction, the library was temporarily housed in the former Borders Books location at 700 New Hampshire Street.[5]
