LightStream was an ATM switching company[1] based in the United States. The company was a joint venture between Bolt Beranek & Newman Inc. and UB Networks. It was acquired by Cisco Systems on December 8, 1994 for $120 million in cash.[2]

Lightstream's switch is an example of Asynchronous Transfer Mode, or ATM, which permits rapid shift of data. Bolt owns 80 percent of Lightstream and the rest will be held by Ungermann-Bass, a Tandem Computers subsidiary.
