Lisa Lynn Masters (1964 – November 15, 2016)[1] was an American actress, writer and model.[2]

Early life and education

Masters was born in Omaha, Nebraska, and raised in the Asheville, North Carolina.[2] She graduated from Appalachian State University in Broadcasting with a minor in Modern Dance.[2] She later attended Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism.[3]

Career

After college, Masters worked as a model and news reporter[2] and landed an uncredited role as a news reporter in the feature film The Siege.[3] She appeared in TV commercials and later, the feature film The Stepford Wives.[2]

Masters continued modeling and acted in several television series, including an episode each in Law & Order: Criminal Intent and Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,[3][4] Ugly Betty and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.[5]

Personal life

Masters married William Brooks in 2004.[2] They resided in Brooklyn, New York.[5] He is a healing arts practitioner.[1]

At nearly midnight on November 15, 2016, Masters was found dead in a hotel room in Lima, Peru by hotel workers.[2] Suicide is suspected, as she was found hanging, and police say there were antidepressants nearby along with her cell phone that had instructions on how to contact her family in the United States.[6] Masters left two letters, some of which discussed her history of mental illness.[2]
