The owner of a rum distillery is murdered during a seance, stabbed in the back, while all five of the participants are holding hands to summon the ghost of a dead woman. With Sergeant Best transferred to St Lucia, Commissioner Patterson decides to make up the numbers to assist Goodman until Best's replacement arrives.

When the owner of a failing surf school is found shot dead, in the chest at close range, in a locked room; the only suspects are his wife, his best friend, and the three pupils staying at the school. When a recently taken out life policy is discovered, suicide seems the only possibility until the relationships of the suspects are taken into account.

Humphrey receives a phone call from the President of the Saint Marie Heritage Society that someone is trying to kill him. An hour later he is dead and the other members are all suffering from food poisoning, from Water Hemlock, after eating a stew based on a 15th century recipe. An autopsy reveals the President has died from a higher concentration of Water Hemlock than the other members despite eating the same amount of food. Humphrey suspects one of the society members; and the president's journal is missing. Humphrey's attempt to express his feelings for Camille goes wrong and he is shocked when she tells him of a job offer from the Paris police.

A bride-to-be is found drowned in her hotel bath on the last night of her hen party. Humphrey suspects she knew her murderer; one of her three bride-maids who all have alibis from the hotel CCTV. The only clues are salt crystals around the bath and a wine bottle cork on the floor. Humphrey, after much soul-searching and realising her ambitious nature, signs the papers allowing Camille to leave for a new job in Paris.

The lead singer of a recently reformed rock band is electrocuted in the swimming pool of the recording studio and home of the record producer. The three other members of the band, the record producer and band manager all have reasons to kill him but were all in the studio at the time of death and Humphrey's only clue is a dead Click Beetle, by the pool, that is non-native to Saint Marie.

First appearance of Tobi Bakare as Officer J.P. Hooper. First time that the previously uniformed Officer (Sergeant) Florence Cassell is seen in casual clothes and credited as Detective Sergeant (DS).

When one of the finalists in an inter-island volleyball tournament is found dead in the back of a jeep, stabbed in the heart and holding a mobile phone, Humphrey suspects her teammate, her two opponents and their respective coaches. The suspects all have perfect alibis, being six kilometres from where the body was found and the investigation leads to match-fixing and a corrupt politician-- a bitter rival of the Commissioner's.

A company boss is shot in her bed after bringing her staff to Saint Marie for a team-building exercise. Humphrey suspects one of her staff and when one confesses to shooting her the case seems closed until the post mortem reveals she was suffocated three hours earlier. The only clues are sticky tape in padded envelope locked in a safe, a bottle of whisky and an empty glass and a victim with no fingerprints.

In the cells of the Saint Marie court house, murder suspect Jack Harmer, awaiting trial, is shot dead by a killer that would have had to pass through three locked doors and past Dwayne and JP. Humphrey eliminates suspects to an initial three and then four, but cannot deduce how the murder was committed and what happened to the murder weapon, until he remembers ants coming through a window into the cell, leading to the solving of two murders. Humphrey's father comes to the island to convince him to come back home to Britain for his ex-wife, Sally, but watching his son solve the case realises he is happy for him to remain in Saint Marie.

Detective Inspector Humphrey Goodman and his team are left stumped when millionaire environmentalist and scientist Dan Hagen is shot on his boat while out at sea. The evidence seems to point to a robbery gone wrong, but with no other boats reported in the area, Goodman suspects a member of Dan’s team, his wife of nine months, his ex-girlfriend, his scientist partner and a research graduate who were diving together in plain sight of one another at the time of the murder. A metal toy soldier with no fingerprints found at the scene is the only clue.

Saint Marie's governor, Caroline Bamber is killed at her leaving party in the house's back garden. Her champagne, handed to her by Commissioner Patterson, was poisoned with cyanide. Suspects include her staff and the French governor of nearby Saint Robert who is disputing the ownership of a small island, Spinner's Rock, claiming it to be French and not British. The secret of the island, love, death, greed, revenge, or a new road round a village could provide a clue.

Fashion model Zoe Mackay is strangled moments after leaving the catwalk, leaving DI Goodman and his team stumped. All of her colleagues, dress designer, three other models and the photographer have watertight alibis and the backstage area was securely guarded at all times. The only clue was a stocking clasped in the victims hand. A series of catwalk photographs of the event from start to finish even provide an image of the actual murder.

Dwayne's old mentor, Cedrik, is found dead and as he is being cremated a text message saying "I was murdered" from his phone that Dwayne had placed in the coffin, is received by Dwayne. Evidence from a pillow indicates murder. The suspects are Cedrik's three friends and his girlfriend. Goodman is also confused as to why the victim gave Dwayne a lucky necklace and had ordered a cheap mail order watch two days before he died.

Goodman's aunt Mary comes to visit him, but things take an unexpected turn when she becomes the only witness to the murder of John Green, a tourist, thrown from his balcony in the next hotel room. A check on Green's background reveals that he did not exist until five years ago and the first thing he did upon arriving was meet career criminal Neil Jenkins; resident on Saint Marie for the last nine years.

After chef Robert Holt is discovered fatally stabbed, with his body turning up in a freezer the morning after the opening of his new restaurant, DI Goodman and the team are left clueless as to who is responsible. Most of the victim's loved ones were at the event, but Humphrey realises that Holt's brother, Gary, was absent and wonders if he could have committed the crime.

When the salvage of the 400 year old silver coin hoard from a sunken ship is completed, the leader of a Marine Salvage team, Tosh Walker, is found dead with a stab wound to the chest. The evidence leads to prime suspect, rival treasure hunter, Newton Farrell, who argued with Walker earlier; but he is alibied by Catherine at the time that Walker's wife received a phone call from Walker claiming Farrell had stabbed him.

Sian Evans is found shot dead in her backpackers hostel showers. With a gun in her hand and her body slumped against the door, it all points to suicide. All the hostel residents are on a boat tour except for her boyfriend, the manager, a woman missing from her home in Wales and Leo, a recent arrival. Humphrey and the team discover they all had a motive to kill Evans . The only clues are her toiletries laid out and her missing towel. JP marries Rosey Fabrice and Humphrey meets an old girlfriend.
