This is a list of social nudity places in Europe for recreation. It includes free beaches (or clothing-optional beaches or nude beaches) and some resorts.

Bulgaria

Unlike the former East Germany, but like many other countries that were part of the Communist bloc Bulgaria's nudists were kept cordoned off behind tall fences.^[2] There are however a number beaches on the Bulgarian Black Sea Coast where nudism is practised; there are no official nude beaches.^[3][4]

Croatia

Croatia has a well developed naturist culture with camp sites and hotels specifically catering for naturists. Naturism has been big in Croatia ever since King Edward VIII and his then mistress, Wallis Simpson, were allowed to swim nude at one of Rab's beaches in 1936.^[9][10][11]

Istria peninsula

On the Istria peninsula the following nude beaches and resorts can be found:

• Village & Camping Koversada,^[12] located at 45°08′6.5″N 13°36′18.5″E / 45.135139°N 13.605139°E / 45.135139; 13.605139 near Vrsar is the biggest and one of the first naturist resorts in Europe.^[13]
• Camping Valalta,^[14] located at 45°07′22″N 13°37′47″E / 45.12278°N 13.62972°E / 45.12278; 13.62972 near Rovinj.
• Naturist Resort Solaris,^[15] located at 45°17′13″N 13°35′08″E / 45.28694°N 13.58556°E / 45.28694; 13.58556 near Poreč.

Kvarner gulf

In the Kvarner gulf the following nude beaches and resorts can be found:

• On Cres island there are two beautiful beaches with naturist hotels and camping, one is Kovačine near the town of Cres, and the other is Baldarin^[17] near Punta Križa, located at 44°36′56″N 14°30′28″E / 44.61556°N 14.50778°E / 44.61556; 14.50778.
• On Krk island there are a number of naturist beaches and at least two naturist camping resorts, namely Camping Konobe^[18] and Naturist Camp Bunculuka^[19] Camping Konobe is located at 44°59′39″N 14°37′36″E / 44.99417°N 14.62667°E / 44.99417; 14.62667 and Naturist Camp Bunculuka is located at 44°58′10″N 14°46′03″E / 44.96944°N 14.76750°E / 44.96944; 14.76750. Camping Politin, now known as Camping Krk was a naturist resort but is now a textile only campsite^[20]
• Losinj island, Mali Lošinj, FKK beaches like Sunčana Uvala located around 44°31′15″N 14°27′45″E / 44.52083°N 14.46250°E / 44.52083; 14.46250.

Dalmatia

In Dalmatia gulf the following nude beaches and resorts can be found:

• Kasuni beach, Split.
• Nugal beach, between Makarska and Tucepi.
• Sv. Petar beach, central Makarska town.
• Lokrum island (beach), Dubrovnik.

Cyprus

There are no legal nudist beaches in Cyprus. A number of beaches, including the beach at Avdimou, have signs warning that nudism is not permitted. A community leader of Pissouri said that for decades there has been an 'unspoken understanding' whereby nudism would be tolerated at an area away from the main beach at Pissouri, but not on the beach of Pissouri Bay. According to the community leader, nudists may visit the area which is on the eastern side of the bay, beyond the cliffs, as it offers some privacy.^[21][22]

Czech Republic

Topfree is tolerated on all places. Public nudity is not illegal in the Czech Republic, but it may be regulated by local authorities.

• There are about one hundred officially recognized naturist localities.^[23]

Denmark

Since 1976 it is permissible to be nude at any beach in Denmark. There are more than 7,000 kilometres (4,300 mi) of coastline to choose from. A large number of clothing-optional beaches exist throughout the country.^[24]

The beach at the village of Husby in the Holstebro Municipality is being promoted as a FKK beach.^[25]

Naturist swims are held in the Blovstrød (Allerød Municipality) indoor swimming pool on Friday evenings in Autumn.^[26]

Estonia

Estonian naturist beaches are overseen by NGO Estnat (closed in 2012^[27]). No tickets are necessary.

• Tallinn, an unofficial, but tolerated naturist beach. Situated about 3 km north-east of the ferry port, at the very northern end of textiler beach.
• Tartu unofficial naturist lawn beach is situated right next the city one in the end of Ranna tee (on the other side of Emajõgi river from Supilinna pond.
• Pärnu, also unofficial but tolerated woman's and men's beach between official beach and Pärnu river.
• Narva-Jõesuu nude beach - the only official nude beach in Estonia. Located near Narva-Jõesuu town, 2 km SW from the town border.

Finland

• Helsinki:
  • Pihlajasaari: Has a unisex nudist beach, consisting almost entirely of rocky cliffs, with no sand. Not very suitable for swimming.
  • Seurasaari: Separate nudist beaches for men and women. No unisex nudist area.
  • Yrjönkatu Swimming Hall: a swimming hall in a historic architecture. Gender separated by day of week.
• Pori:
  • Yyteri: A very small part of the main Yyteri beach is designated as a unisex nudist beach. A flat beach covered in sand and much more suitable for swimming than Pihlajasaari.

France

• There are many naturist resorts on the Atlantic coast, for example CHM Montalivet, Euronat and La Jenny.
• The Mediterranean seaside town of Cap d'Agde has a large naturist village with sandy beach, several swimming pools, but also nude shopping.
• Leucate^[28] Naturist Villages, and a 1,200 metres (1,300 yd) long beach is one of the best places on Mediterranean to practise naturism
• Aphrodite Village,^[29] Oasis Village,^[30] Village camping Ulysse,^[31] Eden Plage,^[32] are open 300 days per year.
• Île du Levant, an island in the Mediterranean Sea has a nudist town, Héliopolis,^[33] and a nudist beach known as Plage des Grottes.
• Plage de Pampelonne in Ramatuelle near Saint-Tropez
• Plage du Layet near Cavalière.
• There are beaches on many rivers, some well known, some informal: Céze, Ardeche, Truyère
• Topfreedom is tolerated (and common) on almost all beaches

Germany

Public nudity is not illegal in Germany but may be regulated by local authorities mostly because of safety and health issues, not morality. Apart from urban areas and public baths (which often offer nude swimming days), nude bathing is common in Germany: unofficial clothing optional areas exist at most lakes and rivers and other sites, such as abandoned sand and rock quarries. Many designated Freikörperkultur (FKK – Free Body Culture) areas exist at the seaside, at lakes and in baths, especially in the former East Germany, where nudism remains more widespread than in the west. Many unregulated clothing optional (FKK) free beaches are available along the Nordsee and Baltic seashores, Rügen and other islands. The attitude is: all beaches are nude beaches until somebody complains. Families especially like to spend their leisure time in naturist areas; sauna bathing is generally practiced in the nude.^[404]

Iceland

Public nudity is not common, but occasionally practised, since there are natural thermal pools in remote areas. An example is Hellulaug geothermal pool in Vatnsfjörður fjord in the Westfjords of Iceland. Hellulaug pool is a geothermal pool which is located right by the beach. It is lovely sitting there with the view of the ocean and Vatnsfjörður fjord. Hellulaug cannot be seen from the road, but there is a parking lot above the pool and a good path down to the ocean. The pool is 60 centimetres (24 in) deep and the temperature of the water is about 38 °C (100 °F). The geothermal water comes from a borehole above the pool.^[411]

Lombardy

• La Rocca nude beach in Manerba del Garda located at 45°33′07″N 10°34′41″E / 45.552°N 10.578°E / 45.552; 10.578 nudism from 1956. Official Lake Garda nudist beach.
• Restaurante L'Italo Americano in Cerro Maggiore, the first nudist restaurant in Italy, which opened in 2016.^[416] The restaurant has an American 1930s ambience and a dining spot which turns into a disco dance floor at midnight.

Sardinia

• Hundreds of small, secluded beaches can occasionally become nudist corners. Traditional places are the beaches Cala di Volpe, Liscia di Vacca, to the north of Pitrizza Hotel and Piccolo Pevero beach, the far side to the right after the rocks.

• Vecāķi official naturist beach. The biggest of Latvia's naturist beaches, situated a little way north of Vecāķi village. To get there from Riga take the Riga-Saulkrasti railway line and get off at Vecāķi or bus Nr24 or small bus Nr200&224.
• Inčupe naturist beach. A medium-sized beach, situated near the Saulkrasti railway line on the southern bank of the Inčupe river about 50 km from Riga.
• Lielupe beach. A small, unofficial naturist beach, on the left bank of the Lielupe river delta.
• Ventspils city has an official naturist beach.
• Liepāja unofficial naturist beach. Also quite small, situated about 3 km south of Liepaja.

Lithuania

Naturist beaches in Lithuania are overseen by local communities.

Public saunas in the Netherlands are always mixed gender and nudity is the norm when using these. In the Netherlands tanning top free is legal on almost all beaches. Municipalities with a beach (usually including quiet parts) tend to have a nudist beach; even if the municipality does not like it, it designates a quiet part as such in order to be able to forbid nudity on the rest of the beach.

Spain

Public nudity on the beach is, in general, not illegal in Spain, however some local municipalities do outlaw nudity on beaches that are with in city limits, the city of Cadiz is one example.^[433]

For nudity lovers, Spain offers various options for nude sunbathing. In addition to the long sandy beaches in the vicinity of large cities, topless sunbathing is possible on all beaches, even in front of smaller villages.

Following a request by the Association for the Development of Naturism (ADN) an email was sent by the city of Madrid's sports department to the 21 district heads explaining that municipal pools, if they see fit, have authorization to organize a Bathing Suit-Free Day, or an Optional Bathing Suit Day, some time in the 2016 summer.^[434]

While there are no official nudist areas, going top free is accepted in all parts of the country, including central Geneva.

Turkey

• Patara Beach. This is the longest sandy beach in Turkey and one of the largest in the whole Mediterranean. More than 20 km of sand where many people go completely naked after certain distance to the public. Naked people also socialize with each other too. Local police and gendarme know about the status and no problem with nudity.
• Bodrum Haremtan. This is actually a rocky wild shore where mostly gays go there to socialize naked. Since the shore is very visible from the Bodrum port entry, it seems many of the locals know about the place. It is also very old and have been visited for more than 15 years.
• Altinkum Cesme. This is a very nice nude beach where many people of every orientation visit. You can see locals, tourists, men, women fully naked in Summer. Beware of pickpockets and park your cars etc. in safe locations. (That seems a bit odd, to "beware of Pickpockets" at a nude beach)
