Maryam Aurangzeb (Urdu: مریم اورنگزیب) is a Pakistani politician who is the current Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting.[2][3]

She is a member of Pakistan Muslim League (N) and has been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan on a reserved seats for women since 2013.[4][3]

Education

Aurangzeb did her graduation from the Federal Government College, Islamabad.[5] She holds an MSc degree in environment and development from King’s College London and a Master’s degree in Economics from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad.[5][1]

Political career

In Pakistani general election, 2013, Aurangzeb was elected as the member of the National Assembly of Pakistan on a reserved seats for women.[3][1]

Reportedly, Aurangzeb have worked closely with Maryam Nawaz and was a part of Maryam`s team overseeing the education sector. She has been the Parliamentary Secretary for Interior.[1] She has been a member of Standing Committee on Climate Change, member of Standing Committee on Information, Broadcasting and National Heritage[6] and Chief Organiser of Youth Women Wing, Islamabad, and Rawalpindi. She specialises in strategic thinking and planning and development for environmental conservation, development and international agreements and Millennium Development Goals’implementation.[5]

In October 2016, she was appointed as the Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting.[2][1] She was made in charge of the Ministry of Information after Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid was sacked for failing to stop a media report on a rift between the Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Army.[7]
