Maurice "Moss" Lane Marshall MBE (12 January 1927 – 16 May 2013) was a New Zealand middle-distance athlete.
Biography
Marshall was born in Thames, New Zealand, in 1927.
At the 1950 British Empire Games in Auckland he won a bronze medal in the mile run and then participated in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics in both the 1500 m and the 800 m.[1][2] After retiring from athletics Marshall returned to school teaching and went on to become headmaster of Southwell School in Hamilton, New Zealand for 16 years.[3] He and his Waikato-born Olympic team mate John Holland were honoured by having parallel streets named after them in Hamilton.
In the 1989 Queen's Birthday Honours, Marshall was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire, for services to education and sport.[4]
He died at his home in Hamilton in 2013.[5]
