Monroe Bank and Trust (MBT) is a community financial institution headquartered in Monroe, Michigan, United States, with branch locations throughout Southeast Michigan. MBT is owned by MBT Financial Corp, (a holding company). The MBT currently reinvest in communities and support over 200 regional charities, schools, non-profits, civic organizations and community events with financial contributions as well as volunteer work by MBT employee.[2]

History

Founded as Dansard State Bank by Benjamin Dansard and Louis Lafountain in 1859, the company changed names after one year to Dansard & Son Bank and moved to its current location at the corner of Front and Washington Street.

The company merged with the Monroe State Savings Bank in 1940. The Monroe name was kept and the company continued operations from Dansard's location.

The company changed its name in 1968 to Monroe Bank and Trust.

Expansion

MBT has expanded north into the Downriver part of Wayne County with branches known as "MBT Downriver". In October 2008, MBT acquired the deposits of the former Main Street Bank and now also serves the communities of Plymouth and Northville. In 2014 the bank opened a lending and wealth management office in Tecumseh, Michigan in Lenawee County.
