Montserrat in World War I

Montserrat, a British Overseas Territory located in the Caribbean, had minor involvement in the First World War. At the time of the conflict, the territory was administered as part of the federal crown colony of the British Leeward Islands, and thus went to war on 4 August alongside the rest of the British Empire.[1]

During the conflict, Montserrat citizens served in the British Merchant Navy, and a vessel crewed by such citizens was lost at sea on 24 April 1917, with the loss of Montserrat nationals recorded by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
