Muhammad Hafizullah (Urdu: محمد حافظ الله) is Professor of Cardiology, and the current Vice chancellor of Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar. He is Project Director of Peshawar Institute of Cardiology.[1] He has actively contributed to national guidelines on thrombolysis, acute coronary syndrome, and ST elevation myocardial infarction developed by Pakistan cardiac Society.

Education and career

Professor Dr. Hafizullah received his earlier education at Cadet College Hasan Abdal. He passed MBBS from Khyber Medical College ,Peshawar in 1979 with flying colours. He won foreign scholarship for the best graduates and proceeded to England for higher studies. He received membership of Royal College of UK in 1983 and Fellowship of Royal Colleges of Physicians of Edinburgh and Glasgow in 1995. He was awarded fellowship of American College of Cardiology, USA (FACC) in 2000.[2] He was conferred Fellowship of Society of Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions USA (FSCAI) and Asian Pacific Society of Cardiology (FAPSC) . He was awarded Fellowship of European Society of Cardiology (FESC) and Fellowship of College of Physician and Surgeons of Pakistan (FCPS). Recently he was awarded Fellowship of American College of Physicians (FACP) and fellowship of European Society of Cardiology (FESC).

Dr.Mohammad Hafizullah joined Cardiology department of the Postgraduate Medical Institute,Lady reading Hospital, Peshawar in 1984 and since then he was assigned various positions in Lady Reading Hospital and health Department. Following are the details of his assignments:[2]

Contributions

Under the umbrella of Pakistan cardiac Society, he actively contributed to national guidelines on thrombolysis, acute coronary syndrome, ST elevation myocardial infarction and stable angina.[2] He was chairman of the committee to develop guidelines for Research Ethical committee by PMDC. He has also contributed to develop guidelines on hypertension and preventive cardiology. He has played a pivotal role in awareness of masses about preventive cardiology ;by regularly delivering lectures at various forums locally and nationally and has been on the electronic media advocating prevention measures. He has written hundreds of articles about ‘heart’[3] in leading News Papers and journals.[1][4][5]

Author of the following Eight English books: Know thy Heart (2007) exploring multitude of investigations of heart diseases, Heal thy Heart (2007) life style modifications and procedures to treat heart, Heart to Heart (2005) interesting stories of heart told by heart, My heart My mirror (2010) assortment of stories perceived and experienced by heart, Musings of Heart: (2011) exploring new vistas in social and philosophical perspectives, Treasures of Heart (2013) relates to impact of current turmoil and the possible way out, all Published by Ferozsons Ltd, Pakistan. Heart of Heart (2005) focusing on social and heart related topics, Sagas of Heart (2008) societal sufferings and an attempt on lighting candles for a brighter future – both published by Jehangir Book depot, Lahore Three Urdu books: DIL KI DUNYA (2012) an authentic repository on ailments and ways to investigate heart diseases, DIL KI BATAIN (2012) depicting the prevailing condition and the possible way out, DIL KAI KHAZEENAI (2013) a description of real assets of life and how to preserve them. He has published more than four hundred and fifty articles in the leading newspapers as regular columns 'Know your heart' in Frontier Post, 'From the core of my heart' in The News, 'Heart to heart' in The Statesman, Monthly World times, 'Dil ka Maamla' in daily Mashriq and 'Dil ki Batain' in daily Aaj
