Natallia Arsiennieva

Natallia Arsiennieva (Belarusian: Наталля Арсеннева) (1903–1997) was a Belarusian playwright, poet, and translator. She was married to Francišak Kušal.

Life

Arsiennieva spent her childhood in Vilnius and graduated there from a Belarusian gymnasium in 1921. She studied at the Art Department of the University in Vilnius. In 1922 Arsiennieva married Francišak Kušal. In the autumn she was arrested and deported to Kazhakstan. After she was released, she moved to Minsk, where she worked for the Belarusian newspaper during the Second World War. In 1944 Arsiennieva settled in Germany and in the 1950s she moved to the United States, where she worked for the newspaper Biełarus and for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty. Arsiennieva died on July 25, 1997 in Rochester, New York. [1]
