Nathan Herbert (born 26 October 1984) is an Australian professional basketball player who currently plays for the Geelong Supercats of the South East Australian Basketball League (SEABL). Born in Geelong, Victoria, he is the son of former NBL player Craig Herbert who played 102 games for the Geelong Supercats between 1982 and 1987.
Basketball career
South Dragons
Herbert started his professional career with the South Dragons as a development player in 2007–08 after spending 2002 to 2007 playing for the Geelong Supercats in the South East Australian Basketball League. In 65 games for the Dragons over two seasons, he averaged 5.3 points per game.
Adelaide 36ers
In 2009, Herbert moved to Adelaide where he joined the 36ers. After a promising 2009–10 season, Herbert sat out the entire 2010–11 season after injuring his Anterior cruciate ligament in a pre-season game against the Townsville Crocodiles.[1]
In June 2011, Herbert re-signed with the 36ers for the 2011–12 NBL season.[2]
In 120 NBL games, Herbert averaged 5.7 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game.[3]
Post-NBL career
Having played for the Geelong Supercats from 2002 to 2011, Herbert sat out the 2012 SEABL season to travel, but returned to the team in 2013.[4] In 2014, he returned to a co-captaincy role for Geelong after having relinquished the responsibility prior to the 2012 season.[5]
On 5 May 2015, Herbert was named Player of the Week for Round 4 after he led all scorers in Geelong's clash against Kilsyth with 26 points, to go with seven rebounds, two assists and a steal in a deadly display of shooting.[6]
Personal
Herbert and his wife, Sally, have a son named Xavier.[7]
