National Institute of Textile Engineering and Research(Bengali: জাতীয় বস্ত্র প্রকৌশল ও গবেষণা ইনস্টিটিউট) is also known as NITER. Located in Savar, Dhaka District, it is the largest undergraduate textile campus in Bangladesh. With the richest lab facilities of Bangladesh it offers the Bachelor of Science degree in textile engineering and industrial and production engineering in coordination with University of Dhaka. The school has partnership between the "Bangladesh Textile Mills Association" and the Government of Bangladesh Ministry of Textiles and Jute. It offers residential education with separate hostels for boys and girls.

National Institute of Textile Engineering and Research-Savar, Dhaka

History

NITER was originally known as Textile Industry Development Centre (TIDC), a public institution which was established in January 1979 and once emerged as only training centre capable of imparting practical oriented quality training for professionals engaged in the textile manufacturing industry. In 1994 its name changed to National Institute of Textile Training Research and Design (NITTRAD). In the year 1999 it had started a one-year Certificate Course to fulfill Textile Industry's present and future needs of lower mid-level officers and staffs. Later on Ministry of Textile and Jute, Government of Bangladesh decided to run NITTRAD under Public–private partnership (PPP) and handed over its operational management to Bangladesh Textile Mills Association (BTMA) under the Ministry of Textile and Jute, Government of Bangladesh. From its very beginning BTMA took initiative to expand the academic span and achieved its academic affiliation from the University of Dhaka. From January 1, 2013, the Ministry of Textiles and Jute, Government of Bangladesh, according to the suggestion from the University of Dhaka, has changed the name of the Institute to National Institute of Textile Engineering and Research.

From 2010-11 session NITER started B. Sc. In Textile Engineering course under the University of Dhaka. NITER offers B. Sc. In Textile Engineering degree under Engineering and Technology Faculty of The University of Dhaka and some other short and long courses which is needed for a Textile professional's. Again it offers Testing of Textile materials because it has the largest and highly equipped Textile testing Laboratory in Bangladesh.

Scenic Beauty of NITER

It also provides practical classes of Textile Engineering students of private universities of Bangladesh as per requirements to produce qualified Textile Professionals in Textile sector.
