New York International Olive Oil Competition

The New York International Olive Oil Competition (NYIOOC) is an annual extra virgin olive oil competition founded in 2013 by Curtis Cord, the publisher of the trade journal Olive Oil Times.[1] The 2016 NYIOOC was held April 11–14 and attracted 827 entries from 26 countries.[2] It is the largest international olive oil competition in the world.[3]

Extra virgin olive oil brands may be entered in the competition by any company or organization responsible for the brand in the market. This can be a farm, mill, cooperative, bottler, importer, distributor or marketer. The entry fee for the 2016 competition was $250 before January 1, 2016 (the "early registration period") and $275 between January 1 until the close of registration.[4]

In the 2016 NYIOOC there were 827 entries and 314 winners, including 199 Gold Awards, 98 Silver Awards and 17 Best in Class Awards. Italy won the most awards (109), followed by Spain (78). The United States won 50 awards, and Greece and Portugal each won 20 awards.[5]

The winners are announced at a press conference in New York on the last day of judging.[6]
