The loss of accreditation was the first by an American school district since 1969. Students at North Clayton High School and at the other district schools may face difficulties in getting accepted to college and possible loss of eligibility in scholarship programs.[5] Accreditation for Clayton County Public Schools was reinstated in May 2009 by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.[6]
