OYO Rooms, commonly known as OYO, is an Indian hotel brand that owns & operates as well as aggregates standardized hotel rooms. It currently operates in more than 200 Indian cities and in Malaysia.

History

OYO was founded in 2013 by Ritesh Agarwal, who is its CEO.[1][2] The company started with a single hotel in Gurgaon in January 2013. The company as of October 2016 has around 7500 hotels in more than 220 cities of India,[3] and has been named India's largest budget hotel chain.[4] It has also launched in Malaysia.[5]

In June 2016 media reported on OYO exaggerating the numbers of their quarterly report posting the question whether the company acts like a startup equivalent of Ponzi scheme [6] Later, in August 2016 OYO launched couple friendly hotel stays entering into direct competition[7] with StayUncle.
