Ottogi Co, Ltd. (Korean: 주식회사 오뚜기) is a South Korean food company headquartered in Daechi-dong Gangnam-gu, Seoul, and Pyeongchon-dong, Dongan-gu, Anyang, Gyeonggi-do. The company is the first to commercialize Japanese curry in South Korea and became one of the most successful firms in South Korean market as a component of KOSPI 200.

History

The company today known as Ottogi was found in May 1969. The firm's first product was ready-to-eat curry and it also was the first commercialized curry product in South Korea. In 1973, the company changed to its current name Ottogi which means roly-poly toy or Daruma doll in pure Korean. Ottogi first produced its signature 3-minute meals in 1981 and two years later, it opened its first research center. The company established local subsidiaries in China in 1992, New Zealand in 1997, United States in 2005 and Vietnam in 2008. In 2008, Ottogi took over Sampo Foods, a frozen food manufacturer as well as Samhwa Hanyang Foods, a tea maker in 2010 to expand its business portfolio. Ottogi started to provide dietary supplements in 2011 under the brand called NatureBy.

Products

Ottogi manufactures more than one-thousand items, ranging from ready meal to canned tuna as well as condiments. The company is best known for its Korean-style ready-to-eat curry products, ketchup and mayonnaise. In 1980s, the firm triumphed over multinational manufacturers such as H. J. Heinz Company and Hellmann's and Best Foods in South Korean market and still has over 80% market share for ketchup and mayonnaise in Korea. Ottogi also manufactures instant ramen, noodle, pre-washed rice, dumpling, tea and many more. Ottogi is a sole condiments provider for McDonald's in Korea. The company carries foreign brands such as Tabasco sauce of the United States, Lee Kum Kee of Hong Kong and Nature Made of the U.S. in Korean market.

Brands include Cham-ggae Ramyeon, a type of instant noodles.
