Peter O. Price (born 1940) is the Chairman of Qubed, a University Ventures Fund portfolio company. He is also Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Premiere Previews, joint venture partner of Time Inc in a new media venture. He has also served as a strategic adviser to Intel, and is the founder of the New York Times Film Club.[1] Previously, he was President and CEO of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences from 2000 until September 2009.[2]

Early life and education

Price was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he attended Friends Select School. He attended Princeton University, graduating with honors in 1962. He subsequently graduated from Yale Law School; after graduation, he served as an officer in the United States Air Force.

Career

Price began his media career as a summer intern at the Wall Street Journal while he attended Princeton University. After his stint in the United States Air Force, Price moved to New York City, where he served in city government as Counsel To The Taxi Commission and as Counsel to the New York Council on Child Psychiatry.

From 1966 to 1970 he held a series of management positions at TIME-LIFE before becoming Director of Corporate Development of Time, Inc. He left to become President of Media Networks, Inc. (MNI) and after the firm was sold to 3M, managed MNI as a subsidiary of the 3M Company until 1986. In 1987 he was named Publisher of the New York Post [3] and, subsequently, president and publisher of the National Sports Daily.[4]

He first entered the television industry as the founder and President of Cable Networks, Inc., and more recently as president of Liberty Cable Television [5] from 1990 to 1997. He is active in the media and entertainment industry as a Board Member of RKO Pictures and as Commissioner of the Latin Media & Entertainment Commission of New York.[6] He is also currently Chairman of Reporters Without Borders USA.[7]

Until recently he was Chairman of the Board of Governors of Eugene Lang College, a Trustee of The New School University, and a member of the Conference of University Board Chairmen. He is Chairman of The Avenue Association and a Trustee of the Colbert Foundation. He has served as an Advisor to the Governments of France and the United States on Telecommunications policy as Chairman of the Video Dial Tone Association in Washington, DC; and as Chairman of the International Chapter of The Young Presidents Organization.

Since 2012 he has chaired Media.NYC.2020,[8] a group of media chief executives that advises the New York City Economic Development Corporation on the digital future of New York City.

Personal life

Price is married to Judith Price, founder of both Avenue Magazine and the National Jewelry Institute, where she currently serves as President. They live in New York and Paris.
