PiSENLAV (Peace and Love) is an indie band from the Philippines. Formed December 2007, they have released a five-track EP which contains five original songs composed by the band. Their sound is a mix of alternative and pop rock with a hint of reggae and ska with influences ranging from The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, Bob Marley, Mr. Big, Oasis, Eraserheads and Regine Velasquez. Combining different influences, they gave birth to a distinct chill-out sound blended with pop rock, alternative and reggae. Their songs, while being thematically linked to love, transports you to a place that bears the ambiance of a seaside escape where you can relax on a swaying hammock.[1]

History

Ember

The band's origin can be traced back with Benmark Favorito (Drummer) and Fernando Se (Bassist) who were bandmates in Ember as early as late 2000. Being at the same university (University of Santo Tomas), they began playing at college events including debut and house parties. The early sound is mainly alternative which comprises the profound influences of The Beatles and Eraserheads. In the later part of 2005, they recorded a five-track independent EP which was not released. Through time, various members came and went, and the band’s morale was at an all-time low. Some members pursued different paths, hope died and the hibernation stage came through. [2]

Mister Eddie Wagwag

Seeing daylight in 2006, Fernando contacted BenMark and they acquired BenMark’s highschool bandmate, Jethro Estacio and Fernando’s highschool classmate guitarist Jinky Golifardo. They then formed the four piece band Mister Eddie Wagwag. With Benmark (Drummer/Lead Vocals) fronting the band, they went on to play gigs in small bars and campuses. They planned to release an independent album which they recorded on a very low budget at Benmark's home studio. They were able to record a five-track E.P. that contains the songs "Do You Really", "Sagot" and the first versions of PiSENLAV's "Love" plus "Fill You Up" and "Terrestrial Story".

PiSENLAV

Eventually, Benmark ran into a highschool friend named Kate Lozano (Main Vocals). Kate, who shared the same passion for music with Benmark having started playing the piano at the age of 4, was easily swayed to join the band. Equipped with their mixed influences and different musical roots, a new refreshing sound emerged. The band was then called PiSENLAV, a play on the words "Peace and Love". A new sound was born, a sound that reminds you of your first love, youthfulness and being carefree. [3] Bringing with them a refined musicality as well as an eager business sense, the band set out to create a new phase in music.
