Pittsburgh Technical College (PTC), formerly Pittsburgh Technical Institute(PTI), is a for-profit college in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States, offering associate degrees and short-term certificate programs.

PTC has two locations in western Pennsylvania: the primary 180-acre (0.73 km2) North Fayette Campus in Oakdale, which first opened in July 2000, and the PTC-Cranberry Center at the Regional Learning Alliance in Cranberry Woods. The institution opened in 1946 as a single-discipline career training school. It has since expanded course offerings through its School of Building Technology, School of Business, School of Criminal Justice, School of Design, School of Healthcare and School of Technology. [2]

Most of the institution's educational programs include an in-field industry internship.

On June 26, 2016, President Greg DeFeo announced the change of the school's name from Pittsburgh Technical Institute (PTI) to Pittsburgh Technical College (PTC). According to Mr. DeFeo, "Our new name better reflects the breadth and depth of our academic programming, institutional resources, and student life."[3]

Housing

Nearly 40 percent of the student population live in school-sponsored housing, which is offered at complexes in neighborhoods surrounding the North Fayette Campus and co-ordinated by the institution's Housing Department. Beginning around the start of the summer 2008 quarter, PTC began construction for on-campus housing next to its campus in Oakdale. Since July 10, 2009, the only student housing options are Hawthorne, on-campus housing and Westpointe. The project was completed in time for the summer 2009 quarter.[4] The project has three buildings, four floors to a building and four rooms to an apartment. This is phase one of the housing project.

Student activities

Its Student Activities Department plans a calendar of student activities and community service projects.[5]

PTC is the first 2-year career school in Western Pennsylvania accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. The institution received its initial grant of accreditation in 2002. On March 8, 2007, the Middle States Commission reaffirmed PTC's accreditation.[6]
