INDIA

The initial ‘A’ implies from neighboring village ‘Appayanayakkan patti’ just to get differentiated from many other Pudupatties in the state.

Pudupatti has three domains of people populated as: Muslim area, Nadar Area & Devendirar Area.

Muslim domain has 5 streets; named ‘Middle Street (Nadu Theru), North Street (Vadakku Theru), South Street (Therku Theru), Small Street (Kutti Theru) and Shop Street (Kadai Theru)’. There is also a ‘Main Bazar Street (Kadai Seemai)’, which is common for all communities.

History

Unlike many other small villages, Pudupatti has a wonderful & rich history dated back to 300 to 400 years. During Nizam & Zameen periods (around 17th century), few of the Muslim representatives had been sent from Northern / Middle of India to this area to collect & manage taxes for their zameens.

Since then, many of other Muslims have moved to this area (from West-Sivagiri, East-Parthipanur, Kollapatti, Nenmeni & other places), as this area was rich in agriculture and was the best place for cultivating betal leaves & rice plantations.

At first, Muslims were living nearby the ‘Periyaru’ river bank at the west end of Pudupatti, but due to severe & consecutive flooding, they had moved to north east side of the village, where now they are still living.

For many generations, till Indian independence the Muslim people were living around the village doing their agricultures. Then, few had traveled to Burma (Rangoon) for work and people started think of going around the world. Later, many had gone to Sri Lanka (Colombo), which transformed Pudupatti a modern & advanced place compared to other neighboring villages.

In the 1990s, further more Muslim men traveled to Gulf countries (Saudi & Dubai) to support their families, which also made a good impact & improvement in their livelihood / living standards.

During this period, increased awareness on education had risen among the Muslim community and most of the children were sent to school instead of their farm works.

Thanks to ‘Panchayat Union Middle School’ and 'Kamrajar aramba padasalai' in Pudupatti and ‘Government Higher Secondary School’ in neighboring village Veerarpatti, which had given them[us a] good basic education, and their studies were further supported by Trichy Jamal Mohammed College and other universities.

Pudupatti is basically an agriculture based village. As it happened to many other villages in the state (as rainfall had dropped too low), people who were dependent on agriculture had migrated to other places for their survival. Now many of the pudupatti people & their generations are living and settled in Coimbatore, Madurai, Virudhunagar & many other parts of the state in sake of their jobs and businesses.

Now the new Pudupatti generations are working & living around the globe (India, UAE, Saudi, Oman, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, USA & Singapore) with educationally well qualified, ventured in businesses and better positioned.

Apart from our sincere thanks to ‘Allah’, our special tribute to Pudupatti predecessors, who were dare, courageous, hard working, knowledgeable, explored around, had a great vision on the future and set the trend towards education that all help us today.

Pudupatti welfare committee in UAE & its activities

Now this committee had emerged as a social organization for the welfare & development of Pudupatti Muslim people and village itself. All necessary moral & financial supports are provided on time by the committee members for the needy people in their home village.
