Ragnarok Publications is a publisher of speculative fiction, dedicated to producing adult science fiction and fantasy. The US-based company was founded in 2013 by authors J.M. Martin and Tim Marquitz. They released a few specialty publications in late 2013, followed by scheduled releases in January 2014 in both ebook and softcover trade paperback format.

History

Authors J.M. Martin and Tim Marquitz became acquainted on social media around 2010, but it was not until mid-2013 that they decided to run a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter to produce an anthology publication, Kaiju Rising: Age of Monsters, which raised $18.6k USD.[1] After the success of Kaiju Rising, the two men established Ragnarok as a full-fledged, independent publisher and signed a handful of projects by authors Mercedes Yardley, Seth Skorkowsky, and a few more. In January 2014, they began releasing dark fantasy and supernatural horror titles, yet according to Martin, they soon discovered the subgenres of epic fantasy and urban fantasy appeared to be their more popular ones.

Ragnarok Publications may be best known for their anthologies, as they've managed to leverage the financial benefits of crowdfunding to attract name talent like Mark Lawrence, Carol Berg, Michael J. Sullivan, Larry Correia, Lian Hearn, and Peter Clines as anchor authors for their titles, such as Kaiju Rising: Age of Monsters, Neverland's Library, and the reddit fantasy Stabby award-winning Blackguards: Tales of Assassins, Mercenaries, and Rogues.

They are presently publishers of Seth Skorkowsky's popular Valducan series, Michael McClung's Amra Thetys series, and Rob J. Hayes' epic fantasy/grimdark trilogy, The Ties That Bind, among many others.

In 2014, Ragnarok acquired indie horror publisher Angelic Knight Press from Stacey Turner with the intent to use it as an imprint to increase horror sales. They followed this acquisition the next year, purchasing select Per Aspera Press assets from owner Jak Koke, as well as the rights to use Per Aspera as an imprint, with Koke relinquishing all controlling interest in order to engage in other pursuits.

In October 2015, Ragnarok signed a distribution deal with the Independent Publishers Group (IPG).
