Ravi Vetrivel (born 28 October 1970) is a Sri Lankan-Canadian film director, screenwriter, cinematographer and editor.[1] He directed a few independent Tamil language films in Toronto.

Biography

Ravi attended Union College, Tellippalai in Jaffna, Sri Lanka before immigrating to Canada in 1992. In Canada he attended Centennial College in Scarborough and graduated with a diploma in mechanical engineering. Ravi moved to Chennai, India in 2003 to study 3D animation using Maya. He has also learned drawing, painting and storyboarding techniques. His daughter Akshaya was born in Chennai in 2005. They came back to Canada in end of 2005.

Ravi worked as a Mechanical Design Engineer for few years and he enjoyed working with 3D software’s such as Autodesk Inventor and SolidWorks. He learned 3D character modeling and animation from video tutorials and self-taught books. In 2003, he decided to change his career from Engineering to Animation Film. After learning 3D animation in India, he worked as 3D artist for films including Superman Returns (2006) and Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007). He later directed two independent films and one short films.
