Real People Group, officially known as Real People Investment Holdings Limited, is a microfinance holding company with its headquarters in Rosebank, South Africa.[1]

Overview

Real People Group is a South African-based financial services institution with operations in Southern and East Africa. These subsidiaries specialize in providing short to medium-term unsecured loans to individuals and SMEs.[2] The group has more than 1,600 employees.[1]

History

Real People Group was incorporated on 13 September 1999 with its co-business was to create operational capability by collecting on non and partially-performing consumer finance portfolios in South Africa. The group later expanded to other complimentary areas of business such as provision of finance in form or education loans and SME financing.[1] Expanded its operations to Kenya, through Real People Kenya Limited (previously known as African Provident Limited). On 21 August 2013 the company converted into a public limited liability company.[1]

As of November 2015, the group has listed bonds on the JSE,[3] NASDAQ OMX Stockholm[1] and the Nairobi Securities Exchange.[4]
