Rekka (English: Wings) is a 2016 Indian Tamil-language action-masala film written and directed by Rathina Shiva. The film features Vijay Sethupathi and Lakshmi Menon in the lead roles, while Sathish, K. S. Ravikumar and Sriranjani play supporting roles. The film is being produced by B. Ganesh who co-produced Orange Mittai. Featuring music composed by D. Imman and cinematography by Dinesh Krishnan. The film which commenced production in January 2016 released on 7th October, 2016 along with other Tamil movies, Remo and Devi.[1]

Plot

The film opens with Chezhiyan (Kabir Duhan Singh), a deadly gangster, killing the brother of another gangster David (Harish Uthaman), who makes a vow to get even. We are then introduced to Shiva (Vijay Sethupathi), who, along with his sidekick Keerai (Sathish), is known for kidnapping girls who are on the verge of getting married to men they don't like. One such girl happens to be the bride of David who surprisingly spares the hero. A few marriages (including to 80 year olds) happen; later, it is Shiva's sister who is getting married, and a stray incident by Keerai results in David blackmailing the hero to kidnap Bharathi (Lakshmi Menon), a minister's daughter.

Production

The film began production in January 2016, with actress Lakshmi Menon announced as a lead.[2][3] Harish Uthaman is said to be playing an important role.[4] Kabir Duhan Singh who played the antagonist in Vedhalam will also be playing in this film. The official pooja ceremony took place at the famous AVM studios in Chennai on 6 May 2016. Set against the backdrop of Madurai and Kumbakonam. The film is stated to be on the lines of ilayathalapathy Vijay's previous movie Ghilli. The film is touted to be a commercial entertainer[5] Vijay Sethupathi portrays the role of an advocate and also a diehard sivakarthikeyan fan, due to some circumstances he is forced to kidnap a girl.[6][7] Despite [Vijay Sethupathi]] who suffered leg injury during K.V.Anand film, the team shot a romantic song in Bangkok.[8] The team also shot a car chase stunt sequence which was shot in the basement car parking area of Ramee Mall, in Teynampet, Chennai. It is stated to be the climax portion.[9]

Release

The film was released on 7 October 2016,clashing alongside Sivakarthikeyan's 'Remo' and Prabhu Deva's 'Devi (L)' [10] The TN theatrical rights of Rekka were sold to a new production house named, Sivabalan Pictures for a huge price becoming a record for Vijay Sethupathi.[11] It received a clean U certificate from the Censor board officials. [12]

The film's soundtrack and background score were composed by D. Imman. An audio launch event had happened on 25 September 2016 where the full songs were released.[13] The soundtrack album consist of seven, two of them are karaoke tracks. Behindwood rated the music 2.5/5.[14]
